JEFF TALK: At Risk -- Our Hospital, Our Schools

The Jefferson Parish Executive Committee (JPDEC) will present 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, our next Facebook Live show in a series we’re calling Jeff Talk.

Topics to be discussed Aug. 6: The Aug. 15 public vote to approve the sale of East Jefferson General Hospital to LCMC Health, plus whether it’s safe to start the school year Aug. 12 with Covid-19 cases still running high in Jefferson Parish – home to the state’s largest school district.

Appearing with JPDEC moderator Andrew Lodriguss will be:

Jefferson Parish District 1 Council Member Judge Marion Edwards, who like other council members favors approving the sale of the hospital to put it on firmer ground financially. Larry Carter, president of the Baton Rouge-based Louisiana Federation of Teachers, which represents teachers and school employees across the state. Dr. Markalain Dery, an infectious disease physician and epidemiologist who serves as medical director of infectious diseases and chief innovation officer for Access Health Louisiana. Jenny Yanez, a DPEC member who is active with ICNA, a humanitarian relief organization. Yanez is a parent of Jefferson Parish public school children.

Viewers will have the chance to ask questions of the panel. To get notifications and join us, simply like the JPDEC Facebook page if you haven’t already: https://tinyurl.com/JPDECfacebook. Like us, share, and tune in for Jeff Talk at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6!
