Jefferson Parish Democratic Executive Committee Chair Raven Lyons has announced that the keynote speaker for the 2024 Blue Horizon Dinner will be newly elected state Democratic Chair Randal Gaines.

          The dinner will be held at The Four Columns event center in Harvey from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Monday (May 13) to honor Democrats who make a difference in our community, our state, our country. The annual Blue Horizon Award will be presented to the Honorable Cedric Richmond, who has served as a Louisiana state legislator, Congressman, close advisor and strategist for President Joe Biden, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and most recently senior adviser to the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

          Gaines, 68, replaces Katie Bernhardt as state chair. He resented LaPlace in the state legislature for 12 years and also spent the last four years as a state liaison with the DNC.  After his election to state chair, Gaines said:

          “It’s critical that we use this unifying, watershed moment to rebuild, refocus and recruit the leaders of tomorrow to address the concerns that are top of mind for residents in every corner of our state.”

          Gaines has said he will prioritize electing Democrats through immediate and unrelenting attention to recruiting candidates, fundraising, engaging volunteers and engaging voters.

          The Blue Horizon Dinner will also honor these Champions of Service, those who make a difference in Jefferson Parish:

          Lydia Bolden, Gisele Gougisha, Stewart (Redd) Hartman, Candice Huber, Maria Pabon, Danisha Shaw and Brenda Brent Williams.
