Two Louisiana budget experts said Wednesday on Jeff Talk that state legislators need to put partisan politics aside and move to fix what’s broken in Louisiana – including unequal pay for women, a revenue system over-reliant on sales taxes that bear heavily on low- and middle-income folks, and shameful neglect of children’s pre-K and kindergarten education.
Former State Rep. Julie Stokes (R-Kenner) and Jan Moller, executive director of the non-partisan Louisiana Budget Project, made their frustrations known on the latest Facebook Live edition of Jeff Talk, sponsored and hosted by the Jefferson Parish Democratic Executive Committee.
Among the deepest concerns shared by Stokes and Moller: That early childhood education will again be denied the funding needed to get all Louisiana children off to a good start. Funding could come from a sports betting bill now in the Louisiana Senate, but the bill’s current version does not allow for that. Stokes and Moller urged voters to make their feelings known to:
