VIDEO SHOWS DEADLY ARREST OF BLACK MAN BY LA. TROOPERS, Reported by Jim Mustian of The Associated Press.

“Louisiana state troopers were captured on body camera video stunning, punching and dragging a black man as he apologized for leading them on a high-speed chase – footage of the man’s last moments alive that The Associated Press obtained after authorities refused to release it for two years.

“I’m your brother! I’m scared! I’m scared!” Ronald Greene can be heard telling the white troopers as the unarmed man is jolted repeatedly with a stun gun before he even gets out of his car along a dark, rural road. The 2019 arrest is the subject of a federal civil rights investigation. But unlike other in-custody deaths across the nation where body camera video was released almost immediately, Greene’s case has been shrouded in secrecy and accusations of a cover-up ...”

Louisiana State Police had repeatedly refused requests for details about how Ronald Greene died.  At first, police told his family he died in a crash. Now that reporter Mustian has published the video, some authorities seem more interested in finding the source Mustian used to get the video rather than finally holding police accountable for what they did.

Mustian, who works for the Associated Press in New York, had done reporting in Louisiana before being hired by AP. He’s the son of Jefferson Parish Democratic Executive Committee Chair Trey Mustian.

FRUSTRATIONS FLARE OVER PACE OF N.O. RENTAL AID PROGRAM, reported by Matt Sledge of the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate.

“Frustrated tenants and housing advocates pleaded with the New Orleans City Council to do something to get millions in federal rental aid flowing to applicants faster, saying thousands are in danger of being evicted when a federal moratorium expires June 30.

“Since February, the city has approved just 700 of more than 10,000 applications for the $11.6 million in rental assistance funds provided thus far under a federal pandemic relief law … Advocates say Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s administration could do far more to help tenants, especially residents who don’t speak English.”
