Folks, the legislative special session of shame has ended with tax breaks for big business, paltry assistance for front-line responders, legal limitations on our rights to recover damages in car accidents (with no guarantees rates will be lower), no meaningful action on police reform, and projections of lower state revenue that down the line will almost certainly lead to more cuts in services, health care, education, more.
But it could have been worse, without one-time federal aid and John Bel Edwards blunting some of the most egregious Republican schemes on behalf of the business lobby. Now, we must work hard to elect more Democrats and more progressive thinkers, starting in Jefferson Parish -- at all levels. Please stay tuned for more events and discussions.
