The Jefferson Parish Democratic Executive Committee – after hosting a Jeff Talk-Facebook Live candidate event and following up with candidate interviews in open forum – has voted to endorse State Sen. Troy Carter of New Orleans for Louisiana’s vacant 2nd Congressional District seat.
JPDEC salutes all eight Democratic candidates who stepped forward in this special election, which is being held to replace former U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond -- now serving in the Biden administration. Sen. Carter, currently representing Louisiana District 7, received more than two-thirds of the required votes from JPDEC members present at the endorsement meeting.
Sen. Carter, 57, will bring an impressive blend of deep local and state government experience to the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as a long record of volunteering in the community. He served in the Louisiana State House and then on the New Orleans City Council before election in 2015 to the State Senate, where he chaired the Democratic Caucus and served on committees related to labor issues, fiscal affairs, coastal restoration, flood control and veterans affairs.
JPDEC enthusiastically recommends Sen. Troy Carter to anyone who supports equal opportunity and justice, plus a livable minimum wage and quality health care and education available to all. Election day is Saturday, March 20, with early voting starting March 6. VOTE!
