Tickets Now Available for Blue Horizon Gala Honoring Cedric Richmond

          The Jefferson Parish Democratic Executive Committee will recognize the honorable Cedric L. Richmond, senior adviser to the Democratic National Committee, as the 2024 Blue Horizon Award winner at a gala banquet next month in Harvey.

          The Blue Horizon Gala will be held 6:30-9:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, at The Four Columns, 3711 Westbank Expressway in Harvey – and tickets are available NOW.

JPDEC will also recognize Democrats across Greater New Orleans who make a difference in our community. They will be announced soon as winners of Community Service Awards.

          The Blue Horizon Award is given annually to an honoree who boosts Democratic Party ideals and serves as a role model and an inspiration for others.  

Cedric Richmond, 50, is a New Orleans native who graduated from the Tulane University School of Law and went on to a long record of outstanding and varied service – as a New Orleans attorney, state representative, Congressman, senior adviser to President Joe Biden and now senior adviser to the Democratic National Committee. He previously served as director of the White House Office of Public Engagement.

          Richmond was co-chair of President Biden’s election campaign in 2020 before entering his administration. Richmond served as the U.S. representative for Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District – including most of New Orleans -- from 2011-2021. He was chair of the Congressional Black Caucus in 2017-19.

          The Blue Horizon Gala was started by Jefferson Parish Democrats in 2014 to recognize those whose work inspires others, underscores Democratic ideals and drives our community, our state, and our nation forward. Previous winners:

2014 – Democratic activist and candidate Carolyn Fayard. 2015 – Louisiana Secretary of State candidate Christopher Tyson, now president of the National Community Stabilization Trust. 2016 – Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards. 2017 – Jefferson Parish Councilman Mark Spears. 2018 – Louisiana First Lady Donna Edwards. 2019 – U.S. Rep. Troy Carter. 2020-22 – Blue Horizon dinner not held because of covid. 2023 – Ragin’ Cajun political consultant and commentator James Carville.
