The Jefferson Parish Democratic Executive Committee will feature the two candidates still running for state Democratic Party chair at our next Jeff Talk Facebook Live event 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.
The candidates (pictured below) are: Democratic activist Katie Bernhardt of Lafayette and State Rep. Ted James (D-Dist. 101) of Baton Rouge. They will outline how they would energize the party and get more Democrats elected, plus answer questions from moderators and viewers.

Members of the Democratic State Central Committee will elect statewide officers on Aug. 29, including the new chair to succeed State Sen. Karen Carter Peterson.
Bernhardt has worked on several Democratic local and national campaigns over the years, counts the late Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco as a mentor, and has served on the Democratic State Central Committee for four years.
James was elected in 2011 after serving as a state house staff attorney, among other duties at the capital. He currently serves on several legislative committees, including Appropriations and Joint Budget. And he is a Covid-19 survivor.
