Early voting has started for the Kenner City Council runoff election for District 1, pitting two strong candidates — Democrats Dee Dunn and David Weathersby.
Dunn, 68, previously earned the endorsement of the Jefferson Parish Democratic Executive Committee (JPDEC). She’s a small-business owner, pastor and longtime Kenner civic volunteer who promises to collaborate with city officials and other council members, even as she fights for overdue quality-of-life improvements in her district — better roads and sidewalks, upgraded recreation facilities, a full-service grocery and more attention to streetlights.
JPDEC sees Weathersby, 45, as a promising candidate as well. Like Dunn, Weathersby emphasizes the need for robust recreation facilities and says he will push for a library in District 1 as well as better infrastructure including roads and drainage.
. Early voting is under way from 8:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. through Saturday, April 23, at the Yenni Building, 1221 Elmwood Park Blvd., Suite 502, Jefferson; and 408 Minor Street, Kenner. Election-day voting is 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at voters’ registered polling places.
